Shotput Ventures Announces Public Launch of Summer 2010 Company

Shotput Ventures, a technology startup accelerator located in Atlanta, today announced the launch of its summer 2010 company, PlacePunch.

PlacePunch is a location-based marketing platform that enables retailers to easily run marketing campaigns on social networks such as Foursquare, Facebook Places and Twitter. With PlacePunch, retailers can build their own loyalty programs that reward customers for “checking-in” on a variety of social networks. PlacePunch also provides direct marketing and analytics tools that tie into location-based social networks.

“Location-based marketing is the next step in the evolution of targeted marketing,” David Cummings, co-founder of Shotput Ventures, said. “PlacePunch makes it incredibly easy for retailers to drive traffic to their venues with their own location-based marketing programs.”

PlacePunch currently works with several national clients, including InterContinental Hotels Group.

Shotput Ventures provides seed-funding and intensive mentoring to early-stage internet companies over the course of three months. The program is a coordinated effort to help entrepreneurs launch their company and product.

“Participating in Shotput Ventures accelerated PlacePunch’s growth immensely,” Adam Steinberg, co-founder of PlacePunch said. “The mentors provided valuable insights into how to build our product and provided key introductions to customers that enabled us to immediately generate revenue.”
